The Visit of Elder and Sister Porter

We were honored to have Elder Bruce D. Porter of the Seventy visit the GKLM along with his delightful wife, Sister Susan Porter.

       Elder and Sister Porter stayed with President and Sister Woodbury at the Mission Home in Louisville the night of January 12th. The next morning they and the Woodburys embarked on a Mission Tour which consisted of three conferences, one in Louisville that morning, and one in Evansville, Indiana that afternoon. After another night at the Mission Home, the third of the conferences took place in Lexington, Kentucky. 

             In each location, Elder Porter presided over a wonderful and spiritually uplifting meeting where they had President and Sister Woodbury speak, followed by Sister Porter, with the balance being in Elder Porter's hands. Sister Woodbury spoke about shepherding, the difference between being a sheepherder and a shepherd and the qualities of a good shepherd. President Woodbury spoke about going back to the basics and how to reach our Mission goals for the year, becoming more Christ-like and laying our whole selves on the altar. Sister Porter talked about having the image of God in our countenances. Elder Porter's subjects and instruction varied from location to location, but generally included the discussion of what qualities make a great missionary, the true meaning and impact of the Atonement of Christ, and how to acquire and teach by the Spirit. The experience was fantastic and filled our minds, hearts, and souls.

After the main meeting was over, Elder Porter met with a number of missionaries, some chosen by President Woodbury and some chosen from the audience by Elder Porter, having short individual interviews.

Previously, Elder Porter had met with the couples serving in the Mission Office. 

He had also conducted extended interviews with President and Sister Woodbury in addition to many hours of discussion at the Mission Home and in the car driving back and forth. The Woodburys received much knowledge, insight and encouragement to assist them in their stewardship.  

After the meeting with Elder Porter, most groups took advantage of the occasion to have their District and Zone meetings, as shown below:
