Munns the Word

          The saying, "Mums the word" means: Keep quiet - say nothing. The origin is Mum; not mother but 'mmmmm', the humming sound made with a closed mouth. It was used by Shakespeare in Henry VI, Part 2. 'Seal up your lips and give no words but mum'.
          Well, during the visit of Elder Rulon Munns, our Area Seventy, and his wife Jackie, we didn't have or want quiet, but instead heard wonderful words of wisdom and inspiration. Elder and Sister Munns were in our mission on a Mission Tour July 18th through 20th. They stayed at the Mission Home with President and Sister Woodbury, then travelled with them to three locations: Louisville, Evansville,and Lexington, where able to meet with all our missionaries.

          In each conference, we had the usual beginning, Recitals, and Conversions Stories, then President and Sister Woodbury spoke. Sister Woodbury talked on the topic of they that are with us are more than they that are against us from the story of the prophet Elisha in 2 Kings, and also that God will fight our battles. President Woodbury talked about several things, but focused on immersing ourselves in the Book of Mormon and using it all aspects of our missionary work. 
          As the special musical number, all of the missionaries sang our Mission Medley for the Munnses, accompanied by some of our fantastic pianists, Elder Thomas, Sister Holt, and Sister West. Elder and Sister Munns absolutely loved it!  
          Sister Munns talked about the scripture in Amos that describes the famine of hearing the words of God, and related the story of the conversion of a German theology professor and writer, that was truly amazing.
Elder Munns took the balance of the time and talked mainly about three areas of missionary work: teaching, finding, and being the kind of missionary the Lord wants and needs us to be. 
          After each meeting was over, Elder and Sister Munns, along with President and Sister Woodbury, greeted and shook hands with each missionary.  Elder Munns also met with several missionaries individually.
          It was a great experience with truly wonderful people!
